Wooden Docks

Traditionalists prefer wooden docks versus more modern materials.

A wooden dock has a lifespan of 20 to 25 years. It is also more affordable than an aluminum dock and can be repaired more easily over its lifespan. It will be much heavier than the aluminum dock which is good on the water: you want to have good weight to get more stability for your dock. However, a wooden dock can be a bit more of a challenge to store for during the winter.

Aluminum Docks

An aluminum dock brings a contemporary aesthetic to the shores of a lake. Beautiful in appearance, it generally lasts around 30 years. Although it is more expensive than a wooden dock, aluminum docks do last longer. However when they break, they are more difficult to repair. An aluminum dock is much lighter than a wooden dock, therefore requiring more anchoring to keep it stable in the waves.
